ARIUNTUYA JAMBALDORJ (b.1992)
Born in Ulaanbaatar, Ariuntuya Jambaldorj is one of the most prolific young artists working today in Mongolia. From 2010-2014 she studied monumental art at Fine Art School at the Mongolian University of Arts and Culture. During 10 years of her artistic career, Ariuntuya has been going through the process of continuous experimentation, creating multi-disciplinary works that explore ideas around spirituality, existential questions such as life and death and the relationship between human and nature. Her artistic practice incorporates drawings, sculptures, collages, videos, land art, and installations. She often uses poetic phrases to describe her works. Cultures and philosophies of nomadic lifestyle often fascinates her and work as source of her inspiration. As an inquisitive individual, she explores the mystery of causes and effects, the signs of nature and the way nomads interpreted them and the methods of communicating with animals and nature.
Ariuntuya displayed her first solo exhibition A Drop of Air at 976 Art Gallery and the second The Fountain at Red Ger Creative Space, both in 2019. Her animation work Thread received The Best Animated Film prize at the Altan Khalis International Film Festival in 2019. Ariuntuya presented media work Origin 21 at the 6th Ulaanbaatar International Media Art Festival by Arts Council of Mongolia and Art Week 2021, organized by the Ministry of Culture of Mongolia. In 2023, Ariuntuya participated in Lost Rivers 10-Day Lab, international program held in Ulaanbaatar by presenting multimedia installation entitled ZAAG, a joint work with Diana Chester, American artist based in Sydney.
